If I were a cat, I'd have one less life...

First, I'll quickly explain the hand injury, then the title to this post!
The end of May I went to the zoo with my two best friends, Sarah and Jody. I rode with Jody in her blazer or whatever it is. (sorry Jody, I know its cool, but I don't remember vehicle names) Anyway, I was putting her oldest son DJ and Trinity in the back seat in their carseats and as I put my hand on the middle seat to pull myself out of the back, my hand slipped and my thumb bent WAY back. I was sure I had broken it. But who breaks their thumb by bending it backward? So, I let it go for months. Then in September Trinity ran into my thumb and jammed it again. It hasn't gotten better since. So I went in. The doctor thought a tiny bone was out of socket, so sent me to an orthopedic surgeon today. He had me move my hand in a weird position and oh my word the pain! And not where it has been hurting. So he says "Ah, that makes much more sense. You have tendinitis." I injured the tendons in my thumb, well, the base of my thumb and wrist. So, he injected the tubes that the tendons are in with cortisone and put me in a splint for 6 weeks.

So, after my lovely day with the concern over Sam, and then my lovely splint, things got even better!
I was about to head out to the store with Kaytlin and my mother in law when I went to get Sam to leave with a big kid. But we couldn't find him. We searched and searched the house, the yard, the garage. We checked the toilettes for drowning, the laundry chute, the oven, closets, cupboards. Nowhere.
We searched the alley, the sidewalk up and down the street. Nothing.
I called my friend's house and asked if they could reach the kids, Hope-Anne was on a walk with them and maybe she took him?? The strollers were all here. But maybe. Drew came home and I sent him out looking for them. Kaytlin took off in another car looking. My mother in law walked over looking for Sam along the way.
Then my friend drove up with the girls. And no Sam. I lost it. I just saw a horrid nightmare flash before my eyes. A life of investigations, a missing child, years of searching, finding a dead child. How could I face that? I fell to the ground in tears.
Then my phone rang. Devon had taken Sam and not told anyone. He never takes Sam. Kaytlin had come across him at their school, where I had sent Devon to go get something he left there. She told him I was going to kill him and he better call me and let me know Sam was safe.
I was THAT close to calling 911. I couldn't stay standing for some time.

I want to thank my friends who are leaving messages of encouragement and prayers for Samuel. I will work on the iron. I have no idea when they will let me know about the test results, but I covet each prayer for Sam. He has been eating SO much better tonight after seeing the doctor. Doesn't it always go that way? LOL

I can't belive this!

Blogging is going to stink for me for the next 4-6 weeks or more.
I don't have the use of my right thumb.
I am right handed.
I use my right thumb for the space bar.
This stinks.
My typing is more than half as slow as it used to be.
All because I went to the zoo in May.
Now I had to get a shot and wear a splint for 6 weeks.

That is the good news for the day. Samuel is a little guy, always has been. At about 5 months old he hit a little fat stage because he fell in love with table food, but lately he hasn't been gaining weight. He isn't losing it, either, but he is only 18lbs 12oz naked. He went from the 26th percentile to the 4th in weight. So he is sort of "failure to thrive" though he doesn't have the usual things with that, like developmental delays or weight loss. He is being tested for celiac disease, which the doctor does not think he has. The presumed cause is probably low iron, which we knew he had slightly low iron a couple of months ago. When I started hyperventilating over the "failure to thrive" she stopped saying it, lol. Sam is a VERY active guy, and not behind in anything. You would never know he isn't perfect, because he appears happy all the time and is always moving and playing. The doctor said he probably isn't very sick because usually if it is serious they look sick.

Anyway, I am a little freaked, but we'll get through. On top of it all, he has a double ear infection, which could be the middle of the night crying jags we've been going through. He doesn't cry when he is nursing, so we didn't think he was in pain. He sure let us know it hurt when they drew his blood today!

Thursday Thirteen~ injuries

Thirteen injuries/bad things my kids have done

Drew
1. Drank Windex. The poison control center said that he'd
probably seem to have the flu, but he could just have the flu
so who knows? Yep, he got the "flu."
2. He reached into a drawer that was over his head and
grabbed a tube of super glue. Know where this is going?
He super glued his eye OPEN.
Kaytlin
3. Fell in the bathtub and split her chin open and needed
stitches. TWICE.
4. Sprained her ankle doing gymnastics.
Devon
5. Fell off of a Little Tykes gym at the mall and fell on his
head on a stone floor. Later I couldn't wake him up.
6. Fell off the playground in our backyard and landed
on the support beam on his nose. I was sure it was broken.
While I was arguing with Donnie about taking him to the
doctor over a broken nose Devon got up and went to play.
7. Walking down the street Devon sprained AND broke his
ankle and I didn't even know he'd hurt it until 2 days later.
8. He skateboarded off the roof of the CHURCH and
landed on his butt on the skateboard. Probably broke his
tailbone, but I don't cater to stupidity so I didn't take him
in. (they don't do anything for a broken tail bone anyway)
Cody
9. Fell sideways off a chair and broke his collar bone.
10. Got flung off a tire swing and broke his nose. The
pediatrician LAUGHED and laughed at that!
11. Sliced his finger open cutting summer sausage with a
"miracle knife", needed 4 stitches.
Trinity
12. Tried to go outside naked, so Cody slammed the door
right on her finger, she needed 4 stitches in her little,
tiny pinkie finger.
13. She was running and fell and hit her ear on our
baseboard slicing through the cartilage even. They thought
they would need at least 3 stitches, but one on the edge
held it! And she did NOT cry at all for the stitches.

So far, Hope-Anne and Samuel have not had to go to the ER
for anything they caused.

“Let’s rock The Rock Chick’s World! Send Life is RANTastic to the A-List.” Shelly says "Jessica’s posts are pithy and fun to read. She knows what’s happening in the world of entertainment. She’ll take you on a journey without you having to leave your chair, as she tells you about stalking Jon Bon Jovi or riding on an elephant at a Renaissance Fair. She can tug your emotions with a post about her grandfather, or have you rolling on the floor with laughter as she muses about Paris Hilton."

Trinity does it again!

No, she did not play in her excrement again, lol. We appear to have gotten through that, though every time I say that she does it again. So, we'll see about that in a few days......
My 5yo niece is staying with me for a week, she's almost 6, and I'm going to try to keep her another week, but fighting her mom could be scary, lol. This has been an easy week for me, Hope-Anne and Trinity have been playing constantly with Morgan! They are up late at night, and sleep in until 11am, lol. (My sister does not read my blog, so I can admit to all sorts of this stuff!)
Last night the three of them were sitting on pillows with their feet in the pillow cases and sliding down the stairs. (again, glad my sister doesn't read this!) They were having so much fun! But it was getting close to 11pm so we told them to get ready for bed, and they begged for "one more ride" down the stairs. Well, ok, of course, but just one more time.
Then we hear Trinity falling down the stairs, she's obviously not going down correctly and is screaming. We run to the stairs and pick her up. I took her in the bathroom for some better lighting to see if she is hurt. She has blood on her bottom teeth, so we were searching for where she got hurt. It took some time, but we located a tiny scratch inside her bottom lip. She was crying as we were looking for her owie, then she says, while still in tears "I need to do it again!"
Oh my heart! This child is a female Devon.
Devon had been sitting in the living room while they were sliding down the stairs saying how dumb it was to do that. But when Trinity got hurt and then wanted to do it again, he agreed to do that stupid (that means boring to him) stunt with her so she wouldn't get hurt. He gets to the bottom of the stairs and decides that's a sweet ride, and he does it again!
If the bottom of the stairs did not lead directly to a WALL, I could see them throwing themselves down the stairs like it was a Slip and Slide.

Booboo City

We were out shopping for a present for a kiddo's birthday party and Sam was sitting nicely in his safe shopping cart protector thingy, happily playing. Hope-Anne and Trinity were walking with me, so nicely. Until we need to pick out tissue paper.
Trinity decided to amuse Sam by jumping up and down in front of the cart. She ended up smashing her lip on the cart handle. She sliced her lip open good! Right through that little thing in the upper inside of your lip! Isn't it nasty? Sorry about the bloody face!

It appears Trinity got a bit of a jealous bug in her later in the day because she got an irresistible urge to push Sam down.
Now he has a cut and fat lip! That's the worst owie he's ever had! He's a trooper, though. I had to fight him off the camera to take these pics. He kept trying to grab and eat it while I had to hold him and the digital camera still long enough for it to decide to snap the pic. Doing anything with an 8 month old is like trying to dress an octopus!

He didn't like me holding his head in place trying to get a pic of the cut inside. That was worse that getting the cut if you ask him.
He has turned into quite the little monkey! He's crawling all over the place, walking along furniture, digging in the toybox, eating ANYTHING he can get his hands on. Donnie brought him up to my work last week (temping for our church secretary) so I could nurse him while I had lunch. He got a whiff of my burger and decided there was no way mamma's milk was as good as that smell. So he sat up and grabbed my burger and got his huge mouth around my double cheese burger and took a hunk off it! He chewed that burger to bits with just his bare gummers! And loved every bite of it! He also LOVES spaghetti-o's. He says "MMMMMMM, Mmmmmmm" as he eats them, its so cute!
